When HSV meets Eintracht Braunschweig, Eintracht coach Daniel Scherning will only have his second competitive game with the Lower Saxony team. HSV coach Walter keeps a close eye on personnel.

Coach Tim Walter expects only a slightly different opponent when Eintracht Braunschweig visits Hamburger SV in the 2nd Bundesliga. “You can see starting points,” said the HSV coach before the game on Friday (6.30 p.m./Sky). The Lower Saxony team parted ways with coach Jens Härtel after a weak start to the season. After an interim solution, Daniel Scherning Braunschweig has been leading Braunschweig for one game. “The game and the statics of the Braunschweig game” will not change on a large scale within such a short period of time, said Walter. The opponent will “try to play out more and then get more possession of the ball. Nevertheless, they will be more likely to go for transition moments and will try to be successful from set pieces too.”

Under Scherning, Braunschweig won the basement duel against VfL Osnabrück and climbed to 17th place in the table. Walter is aware that HSV has often not cut a good figure against supposedly smaller teams this season – away from home. “We have been warned,” said the 48-year-old. The Hanseatic League lost to newly promoted teams SV Elversberg and VfL Osnabrück this season. Most recently there was another defeat for the second-placed team at Holstein Kiel, 2:4 (0:1).

Power struggle at the traditional club

At home, however, HSV is a force. In the Volksparkstadion, whose home area against Braunschweig will be sold out again, Hamburg have won each of their six league games so far. Meanwhile, the defensive situation is problematic: Captain Sebastian Schonlau (calf) is still out, Dennis Hadzikadunic saw his fifth yellow card against Kiel and is suspended. In Kiel, Hadzikadunic formed the central defense with Guilherme Ramos, whose adductor injury occurred in the game and who then had to leave the field.

Ramos and Stephan Ambrosius, who was injured in Kiel, are now back in training. Walter hopes that both will be able to play against Braunschweig. Nevertheless, there are “many options,” said the coach. Moritz Heyer could slide into central defense, and the young talents Luis Seifert and Valon Zumberi could also get match practice.

The upcoming duel is definitely a special encounter for Immanuel Pherai. The 22-year-old midfielder moved from Eintracht Braunschweig to HSV in the summer. A key player at Braunschweig, only a rotation player at HSV – Pherai certainly imagined his debut to be different. “It’s always the case that when a player comes somewhere new, things don’t always go smoothly,” said Walter, referring to Pherai. “He has incredible talent and brings a lot to the table. He’s shown it many times. We just wish there was a little more consistency.”

FC St. Pauli: Debate about season tickets

The city rival FC St. Pauli will initially focus on other questions on Thursday: The general meeting is scheduled for Thursday evening. The twelve-point agenda includes, among other things, the election of a new vice president to replace the resigned Carsten Höltkemeyer. The regulation surrounding the allocation of season tickets that become available is also likely to be an issue.

The league leader of the 2nd Bundesliga had announced that it would abolish the waiting list for season tickets and introduce new criteria for the allocation. There is unlikely to be a satisfactory solution for everyone as the demand for season tickets is much higher than the supply.
