Guanajuato Exceeds Expectations with 16 Medals at Santiago 2023 Pan American Games

Although it was not the number of gold metals that had been predicted, the athletes representing Guanajuato exceeded expectations by achieving 16 medals at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.

And the thing is that, at the time, the Code Guanajuato chaired by Marco Heroldo Gaxiola, was confident that the 13 medals would be surpassed with more than 40 representatives of the entity, of which 5 would be gold.

In the end, 5 gold medals were not won, but the figure of 13 was exceeded, since there were 16 total medals (3 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze).

But along the way there were vicissitudes beyond the control of the Code, such as the absence of mountain biker Gerardo Ulloa, who was suspended by WADA and could not attend, and, by his own decision, the absence of Laura Galván from the 5,000-meter dash.

The golds were won by the triathlete Lizeth Rueda in what was a historic gold, by Arantxa Chávez and Paola Pineda in synchronized 3-meter springboard diving and the Acambarense Alejandría Godínez in women’s soccer.

The silvers were won by: Laura Galván in the 10,000 meter dash and Edgar Ramírez in the men’s 4×400 relay; Paulina Martínez in judo in the -52 kilogram category; Arantxa Chávez in 3 meter springboard diving.

Matías Grande in archery in the men’s team recurve and individual recurve mode; Luis Gallardo in skeet shooting in a mixed team together with Gabriela Rodríguez

And the eighth silver was won by Goretti Zumaya in the air rifle in mixed team mode alongside Edson Ramírez.

The bronzes were won by: Hugo Reyes in rowing in the Two without coxswain (M2-) test alongside Jordy Gutiérrez. Matías Grande in recurve mixed team archery.

Iliana Lomelí in couples bowling next to the royal Sandra Góngora, Prisca Awiti in judo in the -63 kilogram category. And Fidel Ambriz in soccer who defeated the United States with Mexico.

These are the medals of Guanajuato representatives, subject to official information from Code.
