Golf: Luke Donald leads Ryder Cup team again in 2024 – Sport

British professional golfer Luke Donald has once again been named captain of the European team at the Ryder Cup. As was confirmed on Wednesday, the 45-year-old will also be at the top of the European selection in 2025, making him the first person to receive this honor again since 1995. It was only on October 1st that he led Europe’s best golfers in their victory against the USA in Rome. The last European captain to serve at multiple Ryder Cups was Scotland’s Bernard Gallacher (1991, 1993, 1995).

“I am honored to once again lead Team Europe at the Ryder Cup,” said Donald. It was very special for him to create a strong bond with his twelve players in Rome and celebrate the victory. The former world number one had played in the prestigious continental competition between the best golfers in Europe and the USA four times and collected four titles. He was vice-captain in 2018 and 2021. He made the European team for the first time in 2023 and will be allowed to do so again in New York in two years.
