Yoo Yoo, a former national badminton team member, is under police investigation on charges of attempting to sexually assault a Korean woman in the United States.

Incheon Yeonsu Police Station announced yesterday (1st) that it was investigating badminton coach Yoo Yeon-yeon, who was booked without detention on charges of attempted rape.

Mr. Yoo is accused of attempting to sexually assault Mr. A in the United States last July.

At the time, Mr. A reported it, and Mr. Yoo was first arrested by the US investigative authorities, and returned to Korea after being released on bail.

Korean police began an investigation after Mr. A filed a complaint after returning to Korea, and sent Mr. Yoo to the prosecution on October 23rd. Currently, the police are conducting additional investigations as the prosecution has requested a supplementary investigation.

Mr. Yu won a gold medal in the badminton team event at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games and received medals three times at the World Championships. After retiring last year, he reportedly now works as a freelance coach.

A police official said, “As this is a case currently under investigation, we cannot reveal specific details.”
