First win for Alcaraz at ATP Finals

Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz got back on track at the ATP Finals – giving Alexander Zverev the chance to reach the semi-finals early. After his opening defeat against Olympic champion Zverev, the 20-year-old Spaniard won his second preliminary round match against the Russian Andrej Rublew 7:5, 6:2 and preserved his chances of advancing in Turin. Alcaraz only needed 74 minutes for his success.

Rublew has already been eliminated after two straight defeats – in the second set he was so frustrated that he hit his left leg wildly with his racket and bloodied his knee.

It is also clear that Zverev can book the semi-final ticket at the ATP Finals for the fourth time with a win against Daniil Medvedev. Otherwise, the decision will be made on Friday, when Zverev plays against Rublev and Alcaraz against Medvedev.

Zverev has only had one win against the Russian Medvedev from five duels so far this year. The Hamburger had already won the end of the season of the eight best of the year in 2018 and 2021.
