The midfielder gave an interview to Flashscore and spoke about the health problem he had in the summer. “No one told me how serious it was, what it could mean for my future career.” But Fiorentina replies: “The reconstruction relating to the medical part is totally incorrect and does not correspond either in timing or content to what actually happened”

SKYLIGHTS ROOM, DISCOVER WHAT’S NEW

Antonin Barak rewinds the tape and talks again about the health problem that kept him off the pitch for a long time last summer. “It started innocently enough and ended with bilateral pneumonia, I had an effusion in my lungs, which then reached the pericardium, I was admitted to hospital. But at the time no one told me how serious it was, what it could mean for my future career. I only discovered later that I could end up like Christian Eriksen at the last European Championship,” he said in a long interview with Flashscore.

The Fiorentina note

After these words, Fiorentina released a note to clarify. “Regarding the Barak interview that is circulating, we inform you that the reconstruction relating to the medical part is totally incorrect and does not correspond either in timing or content to what actually happened. For privacy reasons, the club, at the time of the medical situation highlighted by the player, which occurred during the summer holiday period in a foreign location, did not make public the reason for the lack of suitability, subsequently obtained on 22 August, as it was pathology not attributable to sports traumatological events or in any case similar to the dramatic ones reported in the interview“.

From Napoli to the best moment with Fiorentina

The Fiorentina midfielder also addressed other issues, such as having been very close to Napoli in the past. “After the 2021/2022 season I was very close, it was practically already done. But unfortunately in the end everything got complicated, it wasn’t possible to close in June and Napoli delayed the transfer of Fabián Ruiz, in whose place I would have been I’ll arrive. In the end, Napoli received an offer to bring midfielder Ndombele from Tottenham almost for free. I was very angry at the timebut in hindsight I don’t blame them at all for choosing that path.” And on the best moment with the purple shirt: “The goal in extra time was the best moment with the Fiorentina shirt and, together with my debut in the national team and the progression in Holland to the quarter-finals of the European Championships, one of the best football experiences of my career. The fans nicknamed me ‘the man from Basel’, so I’m etched in many people’s memories.”
