Feyenoord’s Champions League Dream Ends, But Europa League Awaits

After the home match on Tuesday evening against Atletico Madrid, Feyenoord’s Champions League dream ends. The Rotterdam team lost out to the Spanish top club, which means that they are definitively eliminated from the prestigious tournament. Nevertheless, Feyenoord has secured a place in the Europa League thanks to Celtic FC’s defeat against Lazio earlier in the evening. The knockout intermediate round awaits there in February.

Feyenoord’s last match on December 13 in Glasgow against Celtic will no longer make a difference to the outcome in group E. Feyenoord finishes third and will therefore play an intermediate round in the UEFA Europa League next February. This intermediate round includes sixteen teams, eight of which come from the Champions League and the remaining eight consist of the numbers two from the group stage in the Europa League.

The matches in the intermediate round will be played on Thursday, February 15, 2024 and Thursday, February 22, 2024. The draw will take place on Monday, December 18 at 1:00 PM in Nyon and can be followed live via 1908.nl. It is already known that Feyenoord will start with a home match in the intermediate round. Clubs from the same country cannot yet meet each other. If Feyenoord survives the intermediate round, the draw for the next Europa League round will take place on Friday, February 23, 2024. The losers are eliminated from European football. The UEFA Europa League final will take place at the Dublin Arena in Ireland on May 22, 2024.

Teams placed so far:
Feyenoord
Young Boys

Six clubs will be added from the Champions League. Eight teams follow from the group stage in the Europa League after the last group matches.
