Empowering Women: Safe Legitimate Defense Workshop Promotes Self-Defense and Awareness

SENIGALLIA – The month dedicated to the fight against violence against women has opened Safe Legitimate Defense in Senigallia (events are also planned for 18 and 19 November in Lombardy and Umbria) with over 30 women and girls who tried their hand at basic self-defence techniques with the judo Olympian Lucia Morico, testimonial of the project coordinated in 19 regions Italian by the lawyer Roberto Paradisi. The event, sponsored by the Lands of Marca Senone and the Municipality of Senigallia, took place at the Campo Boario building and saw an extraordinary participation of women.

The ABC of legitimate defense

Many young people have tried the “ABC” of legitimate defense, the theme of the event opened by the DLS national coordinator Roberto Paradisi (who recalled the need for continuous preventive legal training aimed at women and vulnerable victims) and by Equal opportunities councilor Cinzia Petetta, who has always been close to Dls initiatives.

In particular, councilor Petetta, accompanied by the psychologist of the Donna Help Desk, Dr. Maria Silvia Rossetti, explained the functioning of the Help Desk that she strongly supported and the operations of the institutions that operate in networks with social services, associations such as DLS, institutions and judicial authority. «Difesa Legittima Sicura – explained the lawyer Paradisi – enters in a very practical way on a topic that has increasingly dramatic implications. We accompany women towards a different awareness: not only of a technical-operational nature but also of awareness of fundamental rights and judicial institutions unknown to most. The truth is that 80% of women who suffer violence continue to remain silent. According to the latest Istat data, in 69.3% of cases the failure to report is due to fear of the reaction of the violent individual. Here we can and must intervene on this data, because that fear can be overcome with knowledge and greater awareness.”
