Ecology is not a movement

On this important date, people, communities of all kinds, government organizations, NGOs and companies of all types and conditions come together to highlight the need to preserve our precious nature and find sustainable solutions to the environmental challenges we face. Ecology is not a movement, it is a challenge that affects us all. Awareness from the point of view of human need, education and specific training are ways to face this paradigm shift in which everything no longer goes.

Around the world, various activities and events mark this occasion, from beach cleanups to reforestation projects and environmental education. These initiatives seek not only to create a positive impact on the environment, but also to foster collective awareness about the importance of sustainability and the preservation of our ecosystems. There are thousands of companies around the world that put into practice this social consciousness that emerged in the mid-1940s.

One of those companies is Naturgy, which has been working for more than 175 years in the energy sector thanks to a business model and environmental sensitivity and that has known how to adopt the social, technological and economic changes that have occurred in the world. Thus, only in Spain, the company has a thirty wind farms and photovoltaic plants under construction, which will allow the incorporation of nearly 1.5 GW of installed power to the group’s portfolio throughout 2024, and which add to the 12 wind farms with a total of 422 MW incorporated after the acquisition this year of ASR Wind. In addition, the company has also initiated the procedures to develop eight battery storage projects, mainly hybridized with photovoltaic plants.

At an international level, Naturgy launched its third wind farm in Australia in the first half of the year and continues with the construction of its first solar plant in the United States, with 300 MW of power, which is scheduled to come into operation in 2024. Naturgy aims to play a key role in the development of renewable gasesboth in the production and distribution of biomethane in Spain in the short term, and in the development of hydrogen as an energy vector that will have a significant impact on the energy mix in the medium term.

The company has established itself as one of the main promoters of renewable gas in Spain, with more than 50 projects in different phases of development, and is well positioned to take advantage of the opportunity offered by renewable gases to move towards decarbonization and is willing to deploy significant investments and resources in this business. The project #BuenaHuella is an action led by Naturgy which brings together the main communication groups in the country under a single sustainability project. The key to this initiative lies in its total sustainability, since measures have been applied to reduce CO2 emissions during the content creation process and, in addition, the emissions generated through the ‘Bosque Fundación Naturgy’ reforestation project have been neutralized. . Work has been done on measuring, reducing and neutralizing the emissions of all content, following the same thematic axis aimed at explaining to the public how to reduce the carbon footprint. This project is part of the Naturgy group’s strategy to continue developing actions that help mitigate the effects of climate change and promote the energy transition towards a carbon-neutral economy.
