Major League Baseball has recognized its top offensive players of 2023 with the Louisville Silver Slugger Award, the winners of which were announced Thursday.

The Silver Slugger Award is selected by Major League Baseball managers and coaches and is awarded to the best offensive player at each position in each league. The award includes three outfielders (regardless of their exact position) and one utility player from each league.

Additionally, for the first time this year, the most offensive team in each league was recognized.

In the first game of the Caribbean Giants series, played on Friday at Citi Field in New York, American right-hander Ronnie Williams showed off quality pitching to lead the Águilas Cibañas to a 3-0 victory over the Liceo Tigers.

The decisive match opened a series of three exhibition games between both teams at the Mets stadium, with the presence of Dominican nationals from the American city.

Pirates general manager Ben Cherrington confirmed that O’Neil Cruz is in Bradenton, Florida, rehabilitating his surgically repaired left ankle.

He’s running, hitting and throwing and has watched simulated games.

He missed almost the entire season due to injury and played in only nine games, 32 innings, batting .250 with one home run.

Five Estrellas Orientales pitchers combined for a no-hit, no-run performance in last night’s game against Tigres del Licei.

Orientales got five hitless innings, three walks and three strikeouts from starter Edwin Uceta, Jeffrey Yang in the sixth, Rafael Doris in the seventh, Luis González in the eighth and Neftali Feliz in the ninth.

The blue starter César Valdez was the one digested by the rival pitcher, completing five innings, in which he gave up two runs, seven hits, one walk and struck out three. He was relieved by Brady Feigl in the sixth, Ulises Joaquín in the seventh and Taylor Lehman.

Uceta (1-0) pitched five innings for the win, while Valdez (0-3) took the loss, giving up two runs. Neftali Ferris made the save.
