The Paralympic Games will be held from August 28 to September 8, 2024. Coraline Bergeron, double French champion and European vice-champion in para-badminton could represent a real chance of a medal. Determined, the young woman prepares assiduously in the hope of qualifying for the Games.

Badminton entered Coraline Bergeron’s life when she was still a young schoolgirl. She likes the discipline so much that she tries out competition by participating in departmental championships. From 2019, the sportswoman, now a disabled sports player, won the titles of double French champion and vice-European para-badminton champion. But his ambition does not stop there.

Equipped with a blade, she relentlessly hits the shuttlecocks with the idea of ​​qualifying for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.”She is very rigorous with herself, explains his coach. I think when she has a goal, she doesn’t give up. She is really very focused on her goal.

The young woman still has to go through three competitions to qualify. She does everything possible to represent France in Paris: “I set this goal for myself when I was at the rehabilitation center, it’s a bit of what boosts me every day, that’s why I’m here in training, struggling. “

Far from being trivial, this re-education mentioned by Coraline Bergeron actually marked a turning point in her life. In June 2017, when she was twenty years old, the athlete decided to separate from her partner. The latter then deliberately hits her by car. The young woman is seriously injured in the leg and must undergo amputation of the limb: “The surgeons tried to save my leg, unfortunately it didn’t work. Right away, the first question was ‘you’re going to cut back, but will I be able to do sport again?’. They told me ‘yes, you’re going to have a prosthesis, you’ll be able to walk again, do sports again’. I immediately replied ‘tomorrow morning you take me to the operating room and you do what you have to do’, and it happened very quickly.

Following this event, badminton becomes a driving force and his life changes. Coraline Bergeron resumes and completes her studies in banking and insurance. In 2018, she entered the international para-badminton circuit. After several contracts in the banking sector, she decided to train to support people with disabilities in their rehabilitation. Her objective is clear, she wishes “Give them a little courage, motivation, make them understand that disability is not an end in itself. We are capable of achieving great things.”

From now on, the Paralympic Games represent Coraline Bergeron’s new great challenge. She proudly states: “It’s more than a dream, it’s my revenge on life.”
