Colombian Judoka Erika Lasso Receives Fair Play Award at Santiago 2023 Pan American Games

At the Main Press Center of the National Stadium Park delivery was made to the Fair Play award that Panathlon Chile and the Chilean Olympic Committee promoted, falling on judoka Colombian Erika Lasso, who stood out for a noble gesture with an opponent after a fight in these recent Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.

Since the athlete is no longer in the country, her teammate, also judoka Francisco Balanta, received it on her behalf, who hosted the five rings trophy from the hands of the past president of Panathlon Chile, Eduardo Gurovich, and the head of the Chilean Olympic Committee (COCh), Miguel Ángel Mujica.

The ceremony took place at the end of the assessment made by the highest authorities of the Games, headed by the president of Panam Sports, Neven Ilic; the Minister of Sports, Jaime Pizarro; the Undersecretary of Sports, Antonia Illanes; the director of the IND, Israel Castro; the executive director of the Santiago 2023 Corporation, Harold Mayne-Nicholls; the representatives of Team Chile, Francisca Crovetto and Esteban Grimalt; and the mascot Fiu.

The Colombian judoka Erika Lasso was chosen by the accredited press in Santiago 2023 for the greatest gesture of Fair Play after she assisted her injured rival, the Dominican Estefanía Soriano, after the fight between the two on October 28, in which the athlete from the coffee-growing country won, when he carried her on his shoulders helping her get out to her corner so she could receive the corresponding medical attention.
