Cholet Faces Defeat Against VEF Riga in Basketball Champions League

Basketball Champions League – Against VEF Riga, a team which had not yet experienced victory this season in BCL, Cholet stumbled this Tuesday evening (70-63). The negative spiral of the French championship also continues at the European level for the Mauges club (5 defeats in 6 matches).

After the imbroglio of the first leg (an extension should have been played before the scorer’s table realized an error in the score), VEF Riga was able to obtain its revenge this Tuesday evening in BCL by beating Cholet in Latvia (70-63). This is the 5th defeat in 6 matches in all competitions for CB, who definitely cannot do it in the month of November.

Very good Gérald Ayayi in the first period

Once again, Cholet was in his meeting until the end. But once again, Cholet did not manage to achieve this with a victory. After a very average start to the match against Latvia (18-9, 10′), CB was able to rely on a Gérald Ayayi more efficient in the first period (14 points at 6/8 shooting and 3 assists, for 19 points in total) in order to be in control at half-time (33-35, 20′).

With a Gerry Blakes still blowing hot and cold (11 points on 4/11 shots, 7 rebounds and 3 assists), Laurent Vila’s men remained in contact in the 3rd quarter (48-46, 30′). A period which saw a small event with the return to the game of Kim Tillie. The latter was unfortunately very brief, the French interior being quickly penalized for 3 fouls in barely 3 minutes of play.

Latvians with strong wrists at the end of the match

As since the return from the locker room, the meeting was held in a vacuum in the final period. VEF Riga, still in the lead, was able to count on the skill at the end of the match of its pivotal leader Lottie et Madsen (13 points each). Despite the responses of Jalen Jones (7 points and 9 rebounds), Cholet had to lose for the 2nd time in 4 days of Basketball Champions League and on top of that lost the particular goal average (70-63). Note also during this defeat the very short playing time ofEnzo Goudou-Sinha (only 24 seconds at the end of the 1st half) and the injury exit of Nathan De Sousa (at the end of the match). A very sad Latvian evening for Cholet, whose confidence brought by his good start to the season now leaves room for doubt.
