BVB wins the Champions League against Newcastle and shows everything in the game that the team missed against Bayern. The defeat from the top Bundesliga game still resonates with Dortmund.

Karim Adeyemi raised his arms in celebration even before the ball hit the net. The Dortmund midfielder obviously knew that Julian Brandt would shoot the ball into the goal to make it 2-0 against Newcastle United. Brandt scored after Adeyemi’s great preparatory work and shot BVB to an important victory in the Champions League. Three days after the bitter 4-0 defeat in the Bundesliga against FC Bayern, Borussia made amends in an impressive way.

“That feels extremely good. Especially when we conceded four goals here three days ago,” said Brandt. BVB appeared transformed. The team took on the fight from the first minute, went into duels and won most of them. Like before Niclas Füllkrug’s opening goal, when Dortmund got the ball back three times.

We allowed very little today, we had everything under control. It was a very disciplined and great performance, a deserved victory. We were ready and fought for the balls, something we missed a few days ago. “We feel satisfied today because we implemented what we set out to do,” said BVB coach Edin Terzic.

“We won against a top team”

The goalscorer also highlighted BVB’s fighting spirit and team unity. “We got into the game right away and took advantage of the crucial moments. These are the scenes that we occasionally miss in the other games,” said Füllkrug, who scored his first goal in the Champions League at the age of 30. Dortmund were simply greedier than their opponents: “The 2-0 win describes how awake we were today. We won an important header and switched immediately. We won against a top team that desperately needed three points. That was a great reaction to the game on Saturday.”

Milan wins against Paris St. Germain

BVB now leads the table with seven points because AC Milan surprisingly won 2-1 against Paris St. Germain. The goals for the Italians were scored by Rafael Leao and Olivier Giroud, while Mikan Skriniar put the guests in the lead. PSG is in second place with six points, Milan follows with five points. Newcastle, in last place, also still has a chance of reaching the round of 16 with four points.
