Challenges and Adjustments: The James Harden Era with the Los Angeles Clippers

Drafting 11/16/2023 NBA

The start of James Harden’s time in the Los Angeles Clippers is not going as expected for the Los Angeles franchise. Since the transfer, the Clippers have been defeated in the 5 games they have played and criticism has not been long in coming about the viability of the 4-star project.

He spoke about the situation and the challenge of training Harden, George, Westbrook and Leonard Tyronn Lue in an interview with Bleacher Report in which he acknowledged that it would be the most demanding of his coaching career. These were his words:

«This is the most demanding challenge I have encountered as a coach, but I am sure I am prepared to overcome it. The most important thing now is to get these guys to sacrifice themselves for others, whether starting the games, finishing them, in shots, who has the ball, who executes the pick & rolls. That kind of things. Getting these guys to sacrifice will be the biggest challenge of the season.”

«We have a talented team and the boys are not going to play as much as they deserve to play. “It’s something complicated.”

James Harden also spoke about his situation since his arrival to the Clippers:

«I’m focused on communication and making sure I’m doing my part with preparation and knowing where we’re trying to go on both sides of the court. I have played several games and obviously we are not winning, but I am without the ball more than ever in a long time. I’m trying to find a balance.

Our coaching staff and my teammates have told me that I have to get more involved in pick&rolls. We have a lot of talent, so we’re trying to adapt and make sure everyone is happy. “We are trying to get to what works to become the best Los Angeles Clippers team.”
