The bang was deafening. During the game between Augsburg and Hoffenheim, two supporters in the away fan block set off a firecracker. The explosion injured 13 spectators. The two fans are in custody, but the police are still asking for help.

The game between FC Augsburg and TSG Hoffenheim became a minor matter last Saturday. This was less due to the unexciting 1:1, but rather due to a firecracker being thrown in the guests’ fan block. Referee Felix Brych interrupted the game for five minutes because of the incident in the 57th minute. “I have never heard such a loud bang in a football stadium,” Brych said.

When the firecracker was ignited and exploded loudly near the corner flag, 13 people, including several children, were injured. According to police, the injured suffered blast trauma. The police were able to identify and arrest two suspects during the game. They are two 28-year-old men from the Göppingen area. They are accused of causing an explosive explosion, the Augsburg police said.

“At the request of the Augsburg public prosecutor’s office, an investigating judge from the AG Augsburg has now issued an arrest warrant and executed it. The two 28-year-olds are now in custody,” the police said in a statement.

“Insane derailment”

The investigators called on people who were injured by the firecracker to come forward: “This also includes people who were treated in the stadium area after the incident but had no direct contact with the police.”
