Bundesliga 10th matchday – Sunday: Heidenheim surprises Stuttgart, Bremen gets their first away point

1. FC Heidenheim – VfB Stuttgart 2:0 (0:0)

The Heidenheimers, who started the game as outsiders, defeated third-placed Stuttgart 2-0 (0-0). In a turbulent final phase, they scored their second goal late on against Stuttgart.

Heidenheim became dangerous in the first half, especially with set pieces, and Stuttgart only increased the pressure towards the end of the first half. However, both teams failed to convert their chances into goals. After the restart, Heidenheim started strong again, but then Stuttgart had a great opportunity to take the lead with a penalty kick (57th). But Silas Katompa Mvumpa missed the penalty.

Instead, Jan Schöppner took the lead for Heidenheim after a corner in the 70th minute. This was followed by a final phase with high tempo and good chances on both sides – including several hits on the crossbar. In the last minute of injury time, Tim Kleindienst (90+4) increased the score to 2-0 with an artificial shot from the center circle.

Stuttgart remains in third place in the table even after the defeat in Heidenheim, but missed the chance to catch up with second-placed Bayern. Heidenheim improves one place to 13th place.

VfL Wolfsburg – SV Werder Bremen 2:2 (1:1)

Werder Bremen managed to win a point in an away game for the first time this season. Thanks to the 2:2 (1:1) draw against VfL Wolfsburg, Bremen can stay in the middle of the table for the time being.

Bremen started the game well with a free kick goal from Marvin Ducksch (7th). Before the break, however, Vaclav Cerny (37th) equalized for Wolfsburg. After the restart it briefly looked like another Bremen defeat after Kevin Paredes gave Wolfsburg the lead (59′).

But just a few minutes later, Rafael Borre (65th) equalized again with a header for Werder. Wolfsburg’s defender Maxence Lacroix was shown a yellow-red card shortly before the end of the game for repeated foul play (88th). Bremen remains in 12th place after the game, Wolfsburg in 9th place.
