Brazil Clinch Victory Over England in U20 World Cup Clash

Brazil had their own moment soon after when Harrison Murray-Campbell had to clear off the line when Pedro Lima slipped in down the right and clipped a cross-shot across goal.

Warhurst came close again in the 26th minute, when his downward header was superbly saved by Brazil ‘keeper Gabriel after Oboavwoduo had chipped a cross towards his Manchester City teammate at the far post.

It was then Brazil’s turn to be denied by the woodwork as they started to turn up the heat, when Estevao’s low drive from the edge of the area flew past Tommy Setford before bouncing back off the post just after the half-hour mark.

But the deadlock was broken just before the break when Kaua Elias fired Brazil ahead with a crisp volley after Estevao’s jinking run into the box saw the ball break loose.

As the first half came to an end Samuel Amo-Ameyaw fashioned a chance for himself following a neat drag-back on the edge of the area, before seeing his low shot drift just wide of the post.

England were dealt a blow less than ten minutes after the re-start though, when Brazil doubled their lead through Da Mata’s header after a whipped cross from the left by Camilo, which evaded the grasp of Setford before creeping into the bottom corner.

There was a lifeline for England in the 69th minute though, when a penalty was awarded after a foul on Ndala by Pedro Lima was checked and confirmed following a lengthy VAR review.

Ndala himself stepped up to confidently fire home the spot kick and reduce the arrears with what proved to be a vital goal in helping England seal their top spot.

As the game wore on, and with both teams making changes, the tempo slowed down and with 15 minutes of time added on England moved back onto the front foot in the search for an equaliser.

But with seconds remaining, England were thankful for Setford who completed an impressive individual performance to save a long-range shot before Brazil played out time to seal their own progress.

England will now remain in Jakarta for their next game and will be back in action on Wednesday (8.30am GMT) when they face the third place team from either group A, B or F.
