Bowling: The Perfect Throw | TIME ONLINE

Birgit Noreiks’ sport is one of the most underrated. Noreiks, 37 years old, is a national player and multiple German bowling champion. Many people only see it as a sport for children’s birthdays or company parties. Probably because even beginners can manage a strike sometimes. With luck. But Noreiks wants to strike with every throw possible. 300 points is her record for a round of bowling. More is not possible.

To do this, she has to master one of the most complicated movements in the sport and control external influences that newcomers to bowling don’t even know exist. Noreiks took us on a search for the perfect bowling throw. We filmed with her in a Berlin bowling center and analyzed her throw. There we learned how many details are important if the perfect bowling throw is to be successful: it’s about spin, oil patterns and the optimal impact angle.
