Mario Balotelli crashed his car in his hometown of Brescia on Thursday evening. The Italian striker miraculously got out of his Audi unscathed, but the car did not fare as well.
Balotelli left the road early in the evening and hit a wall. Images show that the front of his car in particular has been severely damaged and that the airbags have deployed.
The exact cause of the accident is still unknown. It can be seen that 33-year-old Balotelli walks to the ambulance accompanied by emergency services. According to various Italian media, he allegedly refused to take a breath test.
Balotelli has been playing for Turkish side Adana Demirspor, the club of coach Patrick Kluivert, since last summer. The 36-time international was in Italy to recover from an injury. He recently had surgery on his knee, which means he will be out of action for months.
In his youth, Balotelli was predicted to have a glorious career. He made a nice transfer from Internazionale to Manchester City in 2010, but often made the news with striking antics than with performances on the field. He totaled several cars, fought with teammates and threw darts at youth players.
After Manchester City, despite his status as an enfant terrible, he still had opportunities at AC Milan and Liverpool, but Balotelli rarely reached the level of his period at Internazionale. In recent years he played for OGC Nice, Olympique Marseille, Brescia, Monza and FC Sion.
