Award for 2026: Aachen will host the Equestrian World Championships

After 20 years, the World Equestrian Championships will take place again in Aachen. The World Equestrian Federation FEI awarded the organizers of the CHIO Aachen tournament at its general meeting in Mexico on Sunday night the contract for the year 2026. The Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein (ALRV) and the German Equestrian Association (FN) had jointly agreed to host the event World Championships competed in six disciplines: dressage, para-dressage, jumping, eventing, four-in-hand driving and vaulting.

The competitions will take place from August 11th to 23rd, 2026 in the Aachen Soers. The area was already the venue for the so-called World Equestrian Games in 2006. “The ALRV has been living and promoting equestrian sport for more than 100 years,” said ALRV President Stefanie Peters: “We are convinced that with our many years of experience we will be able to successfully organize this championship and make a significant contribution to supporting and promoting equestrian sport worldwide can afford.”

Even if the Aachen team can rely on what has been tried and tested, there will be no “copy and paste” of the 2006 World Cup, said Michael Mronz, managing director of Aachener Reitturnier GmbH and member of the International Olympic Committee: “We want to transport the World Cup into modern times, they will be significantly more digital. We want to involve the fans and make equestrian sport an experience for everyone.”

Dressage rider Isabell Werth took part in the World Equestrian Games in Aachen 20 years ago and won two golds and one bronze. “A world championship in Aachen will give equestrian sport a real push. And not just in Germany, but worldwide,” said the 54-year-old and added: “The memory of 2006 will be an inspiration for everyone, I’m very sure of that.”
