Austria’s Drei Youth Circuit presented by Babolat: New Tournament Series in 2024 with Nation-Wide Reach

Austria’s most important youth tournament series will stop in every federal state in 2024 with new partners.

A lot is new: The most important Austrian youth tournament series starts the 2024 season with a new name and new concept. Generously supported by the Telekom full-service provider Drei and the sporting goods manufacturer Babolat, the starting signal for the Drei Youth Circuit presented by Babolat will be given from January 2nd to 7th – with the first tournament for the age categories U12/U18 at the Colony Club in Vienna and U14 at the Neudau Tennis Club in Wolfsberg. There are five participation opportunities for all age groups and the Masters from October 17th to 20th in the Sportaktivpark Bad Waltersdorf as the crowning finale. A high quality of all stops is ensured: The Austrian Tennis Association provides the basic framework and, in the course of the youth tournament series, only cooperates with tournament directors with many years of experience.

What is new, among other things, is that all nine federal states will be involved next year: at least one competition will take place in each federal state. “The focus so far has been too strong on the eastern region. The state associations urgently wanted all federal states to be included in the future. In close coordination with the regional associations, we found a way to do this,” said ÖTV sports coordinator and Billie Jean King Cup captain Marion Maruska, explaining the reasons for this. “Of course, we proceeded in an absolutely fair and transparent manner and included all parties in the decision-making process. We are also pleased that we were able to bring such important, existing partners like Drei and Babolat into this new path and win them over to our concept. We would like to thank you very much for the great support,” said ÖTV Managing Director for Economic Affairs Thomas Schweda.

Two-match guarantee for all participants

Significant improvements have also been made in the purely sporting area. For example, at the Three Youth Circuit presented by Babolat 2024 there will be a two-match guarantee for all starters in the future, through a consolation round for all first-round losers with short sets of up to four games. In the main competition, the first four seeds will receive a bye in round one, as in 2023. The qualification grid is limited to 32 participants each. This means that in the future the best in the country will increasingly be found at the Category 1 tournament series, the highest level after that at the Austrian Youth Championships. However, consideration will be given to the fewer participation opportunities for players ranked lower in the ÖTV youth rankings, and at the same time an increased range of category 2 tournaments will be created. Players from the top 30 of the ÖTV youth rankings are not admitted to these events, which take place on the same dates.
