ASD Trophy Karate Club Participates in International Mediterranean Trophy

L’ASD Trophy Karate Club del maestro Antonio La Torre he participated with 12 of his more than 40 athletes at the International Mediterranean Trophy which took place between 17 and 19 November in the multipurpose sports hall of the CUS in the university center of the Annunziata district of Messina, in Sicily.

The event, organized by the Sicilian Regional Committee of the karate sector of Italian Judo Wrestling Karate Martial Arts Federation (FIJLKAM), was aimed at the categories “under 10, 12 and 14”, “cadets”, “juniores” and “seniors”. The three days included two types of competitions, namely the competitions of say and those of kumite. Those for the older ones were organized according to the regulations of the World Karate Federation (WKF)the world karate federation, while the competitions intended for the little ones were organized according to the national regulations of FIJLKAM.

For non-experts, it should be noted that in Japanese martial arts the “kata” indicates the forms, that is, a series of codified movements that represent various fighting techniques in order to highlight the founding principles and optimal execution opportunities. For the spectator, therefore, the kata is a succession of pre-established parry and attack techniques, performed against multiple imaginary opponents, made spectacular by the athlete’s interpretation and the ability to move harmoniously and precisely in space, with speed, power, rhythm. As regards “kumite”, which could be literally translated as “crossing the hands”, it can be said that it is basically the spectacular fight between two athletes, which fascinates the public for its precision, control and speed. execution of every attack, parry and throw technique.

During the International Mediterranean Trophy, the students of the historic martial arts school of the Costa degli Dei tried their hand at kumite tests for the “under” categories. To get on tatamithe carpet on which kumite fights take place, 774 athletes from all over the peninsula arrived in Messina, while the four very spirited karatekas carried the colors of maestro La Torre’s ASD Tropheum high. Chloe Tavellawho came close to the podium finishing in 4th place in his category, Chloe DeCarlocame in 6th place, Clarissa Sandu e Maria Francesca Famà, who despite having reached 11th place together with her teammate, still impressed with the quantity of techniques achieved in the first matches. For the boys, however, the Tropheum champion was not able to take to the tatami Ferdinand Pugliesedue to the fever, while the little brothers stood out positively Lorenzo Pontoriero (who came 11th in his category) and Domenico Pontoriero (who came close to the podium by placing 4th), as well as Nicola Sorrentino, Alessio Strano e Matthias Saturnwho came in 11th place, while the smaller ones placed higher Riccardo Forelli e Yuri Godanoin 6th and 5th place respectively in their respective categories.

Even if this time there were no medals for the very young athletes from Tropea, Ricadi, Drapia and Parghelia, participation in an international tournament held outside Calabria still served everyone to gain experience and try their hand at athletes from all over the world. ‘Italy.

The social coach La Torre was satisfied, convinced that with a little more luck, his athletes could easily have reached the podium, considering the technical level achieved.

The next sporting event for the ASD Tropheum Karate will be Xmas Cup, organized by the CSEN Regional Committee for the Karate sector of Sicily, scheduled for 3 December at the “PalaVolcan” sports hall in Acireale, in the province of Catania. For this reason, the next week of training, at the social facility in via dei Gerani in Santa Domenica di Ricadi, will be entirely focused on preparing for this important event. Furthermore, in December, the social event will be held regarding the exams both for the preparatory courses for white belts and for so-called kyu, that is, the grade passages of the colored belts. The last exams were organized at the San Nicolò sports hall, granted to the ASD Tropheum for this occasion by the municipal administration of Ricadi Capo Vaticano, which provided its patronage. Considering the appreciation shown by the families of the young students attending the martial arts school, the company is evaluating the opportunity to repeat last year’s positive experience, transforming the graduation exams into a real event open to the entire community, to promote this fascinating discipline in the area and bring young people closer to sport.
