Antony’s departure from Manchester United seems increasingly likely. The 23-year-old Brazilian was acquired from Ajax for no less than 95 million euros in the summer of 2022, but has not yet been able to live up to the sky-high expectations. According to SciSports, he could join Real Madrid and RB Leipzig to revive his career.

More and more signals are appearing in the English media that Antony’s departure is slowly but surely getting closer. Rio Ferdinand expects that it could cause frustration for Alejandro Garnacho if Antony is preferred over him. United are also considering involving the attacker in an exchange deal for Gabriel Barbosa from Flamengo. In exchange for the arrival of the 27-year-old attacker, Antony could go to Brazil on a rental basis.

According to the Career Advice Tool, there are three clubs that would be a good fit for Antony: RB Leipzig, Real Madrid and Manchester United. At Leipzig, the ex-Ajax player has great prospects of playing time and his playing style also matches well with that of the German top club. The development opportunities are reasonable. The only disadvantage to a switch to the Roten Bullen is the formation: Marco Rose often has his team play in a 4-2-2-2 formation, which would give Antony a considerably different role than in the 4-2-3 -1 that Erik ten Hag uses in Manchester.

Antony can develop better at Real Madrid than at Leipzig, as the level of his teammates will be higher. Carlo Ancelotti’s formation also suits Antony better than that of the club where Xavi Simons plays, among others. The chance of playing time is only lower in the Spanish capital: for Los Blancos, Rodrygo is clearly the first choice, while central midfielder Federico Valverde can also play on the right wing. Both are rated higher than Antony by SciSports.

If Manchester United indeed decide to sell Antony, they will probably have to accept a significant loss on the left foot. Partly due to his disappointing performances, the attacker has fallen considerably in value. Shortly after his arrival at Old Trafford, the FootballTransfers algorithm estimated Antony’s Expected Transfer Value (xTV) at €76.8 million. The xTV has now fallen to only 42.9 million euros.
