Angri Femminile loses in overtime to Stabia, delaying first win of the season

Ko after extra time for the Angri Femminile. Coach Francesco Iannone’s team loses 62-66 against Stabia at PalaGalvani and postpones the appointment with the first smile of the season. A few too many inattentions cost the grey-reds dearly. Carcaterra’s 17 points and Sapienza’s 16 were not enough, as she left the pitch battered with an ankle injury.

Sapienza broke the deadlock after more than 3′ with a shot from the corner. Stabia doesn’t wait to respond, scoring with Fedele and Iozzino to make it 4-5. The guests immediately make it clear that they are serious and try to make an attack with Di Martino and Iozzino (5-12). Sapienza and Carcaterra are leading the charge for the recovery for the score at 12 all. The second half opens with Infante’s triple for 12-15. There were many turnovers for the guests, who suffered another basket from Fedele (12-17). So coach Iannone is forced to time out. Upon returning, it is Capriati and the excellent Sapienza who close the gap again (17-17). Stoyanova scores a three, but on the other end Iozzino cancels everything for 20-22. Sapienza is always present in the paint and creates the 24-22. The Stabiesi are able to punish the mistakes of the locals and place a new break with Scala, Di Martino and Inverno for the 26-31.

Upon returning, Carcaterra takes care of trying to move her teammates for the new -2 (33-35). And it is again the latter who scores the overtaking on the counterattack (36-35). Sapienza is a thorn in the side under the boards and pierces the retina for 39-35. Somma restores the distance again to equal 42. Falino makes 1/2 of the free throws and right at the end Inverno guesses the triple of 43-45 with which we go to the final break. In the fourth period Angri moves his score with a triple from Sicignano’s corner (46-45). Carcaterra tries to take her teammates by the hand, scoring seven points in a row for 53-47. Capriati also achieves the maximum +8 advantage (55-47) on yet another recovery by Sapienza. The guests don’t accept it and make up for it again with Fedele (55-54). Angri loses Sapienza due to injury and Stabia takes advantage of the opportunity to overtake Iozzino again (55-56) with 2′ to play. There were many mistakes on both sides. Tolardo hits a free throw. After many upheavals Angri gets a crucial possession with 20” to play. Carcaterra misses a three, then coach Martone suffers a technical with 3” to play. But the premises do not materialize. We go to overtime. Too many Angrese indecisions, punished by greater cynicism on the part of Stabia who extends with Infante (58-61). The guests arrive at +5, but Tolardo keeps Angri’s hopes alive with a bomb (61-63). Iozzino makes it 1/2 on the line, then commits a foul on Capriati with 28” on the clock. She also only lands one, with Stabia calling time out. On the next throw, Infante again finds the support that decides the match. It’s a game, match and meeting for the travellers.
