Andy Murray and Coach Ivan Lendl Part Ways Once Again

Scottish tennis star Andy Murray celebrated his greatest successes alongside his long-time coach Ivan Lendl. Now both go their separate ways – once again.

Tennis professional Andy Murray is separating from his coach Ivan Lendl for the third time.

“Ivan has stood by me in the most important moments of my career and I can’t thank him enough for what he has made possible for me,” Murray said in a statement: “He is a unique character who understands what it takes it takes to win and I’ve learned a lot from him over the years.”

The 36-year-old began working with the former world-class tennis player in the spring of 2012, and six months later Murray won the gold medal at the Summer Olympics in London. In 2013 he was crowned Wimbledon champion.

The first separation from Lendl followed in March 2014. From 2016 onwards, the two found each other again: Murray initially triumphed again at Wimbledon, only to win his second Olympic gold medal a little later at the Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro. In November 2016, he also climbed to first place in the world rankings for the first time in his career.

Tennis icon Lendl: “Sport has become better thanks to Murray”

In 2017, Murray and Lendl ended their collaboration again, and the break lasted until 2022.

However, the right-hander was no longer able to build on his great successes from the past. Numerous injuries threw Murray off track at times; he is currently ranked 41st in the world. Over the course of his career, he has won 46 ATP singles titles.

The separation from his former successful coach is now on good terms. “I will look back with fond memories of the time Andy and I worked together. He works harder than anyone else and the sport has become better because of him. I wish him nothing but the best for the years to come,” he said Ivan Lendl, who also trained the German tennis professional Alexander Zverev between 2018 and 2019, quoted.
