Andre Iguodala Named Interim Executive Director of NBA Players’ Union

A few days before the start of the NBA regular season, Andre Iguodala made his retirement official. The veteran winger – 19 seasons in the North American league – did not stay out of action for long. On Thursday, the NBA players’ union (NBPA) named him interim executive director replacing Tamika Tremaglio, who had held this position since early 2022. “Iggy” is familiar with the union structure, having been on the executive committee for more than ten years when he was a player.

The four-time NBA champion with Golden State – 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022 – only played eight games last season, the smallest total of his career. “I have been given the unique opportunity to use everything I learned as a player during my 19-year career to help build an even stronger and more influential union for the next generations of players,” said Iguodala in a press release.

Tamika Tremaglio leaves her position after negotiating the new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with the NBA. The lawyer succeeded Michelle Roberts, whose mandate lasted seven years. Iguodala is not the first ex-player to occupy the position of executive director since Alex English, ex-Denver star, had taken on an interim role in 1996. “Iggy” will work in particular with CJ McCollum, the New Orleans guard, president of the NBPA, a position always reserved for an active player.
