Alicante Town of El Campello Hosts Successful Badminton Tournament for Young Athletes

This Saturday the Alicante town of El Campello became the epicenter of badminton in the Valencian Community with the dispute of the Top TTR of lower categories that brought together a total of 93 athletes ranging from the Under-11 to Under-19 categories.

The Xàtiva Badminton Club, as usual in these tournaments, was present with a representation of 11 athletes and with the absence due to injury of Marcos Cimas who was not able to recover 100% from the bruise on his hand caused in the last TTR held in Teulada.

On this occasion the performance of the people from Setaba was very good in general terms, achieving a total of ten metals and above all showing good progression in the game of the youngest players. We move on to detail the results of our athletes.

Sub-13

We start with the Under-13 category where our representatives Adrià Meseguer and Arnau Ballester did not manage to overcome the group stage in the singles event and continue to gain experience in the category to face the next season with greater guarantees. In the men’s doubles event, the couple from Sebastián managed to reach the semifinals where they faced the duo formed by Manuel Carrasco and Alejandro González (CB Moral De Calatrava) where the first set was easily scored by the Castilian-Manchegans 21-1, but Arnau and Adrià reacted to make things more difficult for their opponents, losing only 21-17 and winning the bronze.

Sub-15

We focused on the Under-15 category where a good part of the results were concentrated. We started with the doubles events, specifically in the mixed doubles where the Setabe couple formed by Feliu Terol and Martina Molina took a step forward and clearly surpassed their opponents, showing a clear improvement in this mixed discipline and removing the thorn of always giving in to three sets against the couple formed by Elias Ivars and María Magdalena Ortolá.

On the other hand, in the men’s doubles event the pair formed by Meshack Martínez and Alexis Piñero played the final against Diego Gazquez and German Ripoll in a disputed match in which they started the first set maintaining control and being offensive which allowed them score it 18-21. But things changed in the second and third set where the players from Sebastián adopted a more defensive posture that made them go behind in the chew and not be in a position to close the match in their favor, losing the following sets by 21-11. and 21-17, having to settle for silver.

Now it’s time for the singles events in this category where in the women’s section Martina Molina once again won the silver medal. On this occasion, Martina Molina managed to win all three matches in group B to take the first place that gave her access to the final phase. In the final she faced the player Lucía Barbero from CB Albacete in a very close final where the player from Seta lost the first set 21-17, but far from throwing in the towel she pushed much harder in the second, deciding the set by a very tight 26-24 in favor of the Albacete native.

In the men’s section, Feliu Terol stood out, after qualifying first in group B, he entered the final draw where he played the semifinal against Elies Ivars from CB Teulada, whom he beat in two sets by 21-12 and 21-14 to reach the final that won him. He would face Lucas Valles in a disputed match that started head-on for the Setabense who, after a very tight first set, managed to win 19-21. Perl Lucas reacted in the second to win 21-13 and level the score, reaching the third and final set where great equality was seen again, but unfortunately on this occasion the score fell to the opposite side 21-19 and Feliu had to settle for a silver medal that he knew little about after the great match he played. Also in this section, Alexis Piñero and Meshack Martínez who could not overcome the group stage on this occasion despite playing good games and seeing a progression in their game.

Sub-17

In the U-17 category, as previously mentioned, the loss of Marcos Cimas occurred, which meant a couple of less medals, since the groups assured the Setabeans of reaching the semifinals without too many problems even in the final, in the men’s doubles events. and mixed doubles. With the loss of Marcos, his doubles partner on this occasion, Ximo Torres and Sarai Ramón competed in the singles events only. In the men’s section, Ximo qualified for the semifinals where he had to face the CB Alicante player Jiaxi Zuo, who despite the fight he showed in all the rallies, the Setabense could not stop him (21-9 and 21-10) obtaining the bronze. Sarai Ramón was placed in a complicated group where she played a great game in her three matches played and perhaps lacked a little luck in some important rallies that could see the course of some of the matches changed.

We close our review of Saturday’s day with the Under-19 category, which also brought together many positive results. In the individual section, David Polop won gold after overcoming the group stage without giving up a set to reach the final that pitted him against Juan Pablo De Siano in a very close match where the Setaban native showed his good work in the approach of the game and He took Juan Pablo to his field to win, not without suffering, 24-22 and 21-18. In the women’s section, Andrea Orquín competed for first place against Belén Guardiola, in which the Seta native did not feel comfortable displaying her game and ended up losing 21-9 and 21-8 and obtaining the silver.

We finished with the doubles events, where in the men’s section Vicent Molina and David Polop won the gold after beating the couple formed by Alejandro Carrión and Adrián Roca from CB Manises in the final by 21-9 and 21-8. And on the other hand, Andrea Orquín and Vicent Molina added a new gold in the mixed doubles event by beating the couple formed by Sergio García and Carmen Pérez, also from CB Manises, in the final by 21-4 and 21-14.
