How did Adam Johnson die?

Hockey player Adam Johnson, forward for the Nottingham Panthers team, died on October 29 in the middle of the British Challenge Cup game after suffering a cut on the neck from an opponent’s skate.

The accident occurred in the 35th minute when Matt Petgrave, a Sheffield Steelers player, collided with another player, causing him to fall and when his foot was in the air, his skate passed over Adam’s neck.

Moments later, Nottingham Panthers confirmed from their social networks that Adam Johnson had died in the accident.

For their part, the Sheffield Steelers limited themselves to placing Adam’s photo on the cover of their X account, but did not issue a statement about the accident that caused the forward’s death.

Days after the death of the Nottingham Panthers’ 47, the English Hockey Association (EIHA) lifted a recommendation to prevent this from happening again.

In a statement, the EIHA reported that all players must wear an approved protector on that part of the body while participating in activities on ice, which would become mandatory as of January 1, 2024.
