2024 Olympic Basketball Qualifying Tournaments: Slovenia and Greece Face Off in Tense Battle

There will be an unfortunate NBA star: Luka Doncic’s Slovenia and Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Greece were placed in the same Olympic qualifying tournament (OQT) for Paris 2024 according to the draw carried out by the International Basketball Federation (Fiba) Monday.

Greece and Slovenia, semi-finalist of the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, will battle in Piraeus, the port of Athens, from July 2 to 7 for a ticket along with New Zealand, Croatia, Egypt and the Dominican Republic. The other TQOs will be organized by Spain, which will have Finland, Latvia (Brazil, Georgia, Montenegro), sensation of the 2023 World Cup (5th), and Puerto Rico (Lithuania, Italy) as its main opponents in Valencia.

The winner of each of the four TQOs will join France in Paris, qualified as organizing country, Germany, Serbia, the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia and South Sudan, who won their ticket to the 2023 World Cup. The four TQOs (the first two in each group qualified for the semi-finals, the winner for the 2024 Olympics)

Tournament in San Juan (Puerto Rico)
Group A: Mexico, Ivory Coast, Lithuania
Group B: Italy, Puerto Rico, Bahrain
