What happened? According to RWE, there was initially a verbal argument between Erfurt’s team doctor Dr. Michael Schuh and Saalbach gave. The Babelsberger was loudly upset in the dressing room about alleged insults from RWE fans. Schuh is said to have then reprimanded Saalbach.

After that, the fuses in Saalbach apparently burned out. Because in the scuffle that followed, the RWE physiotherapist was hit in the face.

Lina Reichenbach to BILD: “Yes, I received an elbow from a Babelsberg official in the face in the players’ tunnel at halftime, fell to the ground and bled from my nose. I was in an awkward position because the blow was supposed to be aimed at the doctor.”

RWE Security and player Daniel Muteba (23) intervened – because the situation, in which several Babelsbergers were now involved, was becoming increasingly confusing. Long after the game, those responsible for the guests are said to have apologized. At first they didn’t want to know anything about a blow, but then they admitted that it was a mistake. Those responsible in Babelsberg could not be reached by BILD.

Throwing beer cups at the referees

Referee Michael Näther (24/Neschwitz) was not entirely innocent of the heated situation in the stadium. According to many fans, the referee disadvantaged RWE in several situations. The sending off of Samuel Biek in particular heated up tempers. At least one spectator threw a cup at the referee as he walked into the dressing room after the final whistle.

That could have expensive consequences. RWE branch manager Daniel Winge (27): “We are currently in discussions with our security partner to deal with these incidents and will follow the consequences. All necessary safety precautions were planned in advance and implemented accordingly during the game.”
