VfB Stuttgart has to do without strikers

Striker Serhou Guirassy will not be available to VfB Stuttgart for “a few weeks”. The Bundesliga’s top scorer to date suffered a muscle injury in the back of his left thigh in the 3-0 away win against 1. FC Union Berlin, as the Swabians announced on Sunday. “Serhou’s loss is bitter for him personally and for us as a team. Everyone saw what great shape he was in recently. We have to and will compensate for his loss as best as possible,” said Sebastian Hoeneß.

All clear for Zagadou

Immediately after the game, the coach explained that his protégé no longer had a good feeling to continue playing. “Of course we didn’t want to take any risks,” said Hoeneß on Saturday evening.

Guirassy scored his 14th goal of the season in the duel with the capital club. In the history of the Bundesliga, no other player has scored as often on the first eight matchdays as the 27-year-old Guinea international. After almost half an hour he had to leave the field. Silas Katompa Mvumpa (81st minute) and Deniz Undav, who came on for Guirassy (88th), then scored to make the final score.

Dan-Axel Zagadou, who was also replaced with an injury, will no longer be out, VfB continued. No structural injury was found in the central defender.

Stuttgart are in second place in the table with seven wins from eight games and will meet TSG 1899 Hoffenheim at home next Saturday (3:30 p.m. in the FAZ live ticker for the Bundesliga and on Sky).
