Veolia Towers Hamburg Clinch 88-73 Victory in Heidelberg, Ending Losing Streak

It wasn’t always pretty, but that won’t matter to the Veolia Towers Hamburg. The towers ended their eight-game losing streak and clinched an 88:73 (20:15, 28:18, 22:20) win in Heidelberg! A very important success against a direct competitor – in which the Wilhelmsburg team did not let themselves be disturbed by several setbacks.

The important evening started with good and bad news. The positive: Aljami Durham, who was out during the week due to illness, got fit in time and was able to play in Heidelberg. On the other hand, Benka Barloschky had to do without Lukas Meisner (broken nose) and his assistant coach Stefan Grassegger – neither of them even started the away trip.

Towers take their second BBL victory in Heidelberg

From the start, you could see from the players that success was a rarity for both teams in the first few weeks of the season. The ball was happily thrown away in the first few minutes and open throws didn’t want to fall. There was never anything like a rhythm.

With a 10-0 run, the Hamburg team was able to pull away early for the first time. The attacks were played more seriously and self-confidence grew by the minute. Especially in the final stages of the first quarter, when the Towers took a 15-point lead. Particularly strong: returnee Aljami Durham (21 points), the eye-catching captain Seth Hinrichs (17 points) and VJ King (14 points), whose 22-point performance against Tel Aviv (72:111) on Tuesday was apparently a much-needed relief . William Christmas (15) and Aleksander Dziewa (12) also scored in double figures.

The preliminary decision? Not at all. Because the Towers initially couldn’t get their turnover problem (19 in total) under control after halftime. Heidelberg was able to temporarily reduce the score to eight points. In a calm manner, the Towers had the right answer ready, and another comeback attempt in the final quarter was also successfully fended off. “It was important,” says Hinrichs, praising his team’s resilience: “It shows what kind of character the team has.”
