TV comeback: The surprising return of Mehmet Scholl

It’s a TV surprise, Mehmet Scholl is returning to the screen. The 1996 European champion, who recently withdrew from the public eye, will appear in a new show.

The 53-year-old former FC Bayern professional will be there at the premiere of “Triple – the Schüttflix football talk” (Thursday, 6 p.m. on Sky News). The permanent cast of the group includes Roman Weidenfeller and Horst Heldt. The moderator is Riccardo Basile. “Triple” will in future be broadcast on Thursdays after the Champions League match days.

Mehmet Scholl had been working as a TV expert for many years and caused a lot of enthusiasm among viewers with his specialist knowledge and pithy sayings. From 2008 to 2017 he was an expert at ARD. There he accompanied the national team with presenter Matthias Opdenhövel, including during the German team’s 2014 World Cup victory in Brazil.

Scholl was also a football expert for BILD. Together with sports editor-in-chief Matthias Brügelmann, he was in front of the camera for “Now comes Scholl” during the 2021 European Championship. One of his famous statements about DFB striker Mario Gómez during the 2012 European Championship was: “I was afraid that he would get sore and need to be turned.”
