There is the hypothesis of multiple road homicide in the investigation file opened by the Venice Prosecutor’s Officefor the moment without suspects, on the disaster of bus full of tourists crashed from an overpass in Mestre on Tuesday evening after tearing down the guardrail.
And while in the morgue of the Angelo hospital the difficult identification operations of the 21 victimsall foreigners with the exception of the driver of the vehicle, a 40-year-old from Treviso, there is still no reconstruction that can establish with certainty the causes of the accident.

And while the colleagues of the deceased driver, Alberto Rizzotto, 40 years oldthe workmate, who they define as “an expert driver” (he worked on buses for 7 years), mourns, the investigations focus on on the analysis of a video taken at the moment of the crash at the ‘Smart control room’ of the Municipality of Venice.
The camera is pointed at the base of the ramp that leads from Mestre to Venice, and portrays the top of the overpass, in the downhill section towards the slip road to the A4 motorway. You notice the bus alongside another, presumably stopped at the traffic light that leads to the left, towards Marghera, and which has the arrow on. Immediately afterwards you notice the vehicle bending and falling, while the other bus suddenly turns on the stop sign. No other vehicles can be seen ahead.’
Here too it was the head of the Venetian Prosecutor’s Office who cleared the air about a possible participation of other vehicles in the disaster. “There are no signs of braking, nor contact with other vehicles” said the magistrate. The dynamics of the accident “see the bus touch and slide along the guardrail for about fifty metres, and finally, with a further push to the right, fall to the ground”. The other bus flanked by the coach on the overpass, therefore, did not play an active part in the accident. But it was the driver of this second vehicle who was the first to try to help. Precisely the testimonies exclude that the crashed bus was traveling fast. “The witnesses – underlined Cherchi – said that he was going slowly, the road section is initially uphill and in any case, objectively, it does not allow high speeds”. What is already known, however, is that it is a “massacre of young people”, as the rescuers immediately said.

And in fact the average age of the victims – 8 identified, the other 13 still without a name – is very low. In the list of deceased there is a child of just one and a half years old – doctors were unable to precisely define her age – and a girl of 11-12 years old. Other lives shattered were those of two 28-year-old girls and one 30-year-old.
The Veneto Region has released the casualty bulletin updated in the late afternoon. 15 patients involved in the accident are hospitalized in Veneto hospitals. There are 12 adults and 3 minors. Ten of these patients are in intensive care.

The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella telephoned the mayor of Venice Brugnaro to express his condolences for the very serious tragedy in Mestre.
