Now permanently on tour together again: Stefanos and Apostolos Tsitsipas

Stefanos Tsitsipas has only won one title this year: in Los Cabos, the Greek beat Alex de Minaur in the final. At that time, Mark Philippoussis was sitting in Tsitsipas’ box – pretty much alone. Specifically, without Apostolos Tsitsipas, the trainer’s father. The same constellation existed at the US Open – according to reports, a division of labor between the Australian and Apostolos was planned.

However, after the early exit against Dominic Stricker, Stefanos separated from Philippoussis. Which brought Apostolos back into the picture back then. And not just as captain of the Greek Davis Cup team, which had to admit defeat to the Slovaks in Athens despite Stefanos’ remarkable efforts and was unable to qualify for the World Group.

Stefanos Tsitsipas in Shanghai possibly against Humbert

No, the Tsitsipas duo (plus brother Petros at times) are now traveling together again on the ATP tour. And that won’t change, as Stefanos made clear before the start of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai.

“My father was always by my side,” explained Stefanos Tsitsipas. “Even if he wasn’t there physically and people didn’t see him, he was by my side digitally.” And it should stay that way.

“I have no intention of changing my father’s role or pushing him away,” continued Tsitsipas, who could face the strong Frenchman Ugo Humbert in the second match in Shanghai. There are always people out to spread rumors and destroy something. But not in the Tsitsipas family: “He is someone who cannot be excluded.”
