The Texas Rangers Stage an Unforgettable Comeback in Game 1 of the World Series

“If a good morning starts in the morning, what series will it be then?”. This is the first thought that crossed my mind as soon as I finished Game 1 of the World Series, this morning. We witnessed one of the best matches, exciting and intense events of recent years and which ended in an even more incredible way.

We presented it as an unprecedented final, where for the first time there are two franchises representing two states and not two cities: the Texas and theArizona.

Rangers have played only two editions of the final act (2010, 2011) and both times they returned empty-handed. The Diamondbacks have participated only once in the World SeriesIn the 2001, defeating in Game 7 the New York Yankees dynasty, which was coming off three consecutive titles, at the end of one of the best World Series ever. And it seems that this year’s edition, even with just race 1, wants to reach the levels of 2001.

We are 1 is played at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. George W. Bush, a huge Texas Rangers fan, goes up the mound for the ceremonial pitch. The last time he had done it was 2001, when he was still President, in that final between the Dbacks and the Yankees and he had done it a few months after the September 11 attacks.

The starting pitchers for this first game are Nathan Eovaldi3-0 this postseason for Texas, and Zac Gallen, who has not yet found the right continuity in this last part of the season for Arizona. In fact, the Rangers broke the deadlock immediately in the first half: two hits, a double Evan Carter and a single by Adolis Garcia bring two points home for Texas.

After two perfect innings, Eovaldi lost control on the mound and in the third inning Corbin Carroll he hits a perfect line to center field that Leody Taveras misreads and misses: Evan Longoria and Alek Thomas’ tying runs come in with Carroll reaching third base.

Soon after comes the overtaking the Dbacks with a bounce into the infield hit by Marte Kettlewho is not called out because Nathaniel Lowe had thrown to home plate to eliminate Carroll, who however reached first, scoring the run 3-2.

In the bottom of the same inning, Gallen, with the bases full, throws out a walk-on Mitch Garver who sits at first base and allows Corey Seager to calmly reach home plate for the tie: 3-3.

Arizona immediately recovers the point lost in the fourth inning thanks to the home run of Tommy Phamthe Dbacks’ elite designated hitter: 4-3. In the next shot Marte Kettle continues his streak of consecutive games with at least one hit, beating double the 5-3: now I’m 17 straight games in the postseason, tied for first place with Derek Jeter and Manny Ramirez. In the following innings the bullpens of both teams are almost perfect and do not allow any runs.

We arrive at nono inning and on the mound for the Dbacks is the closer Paul Sewald, who up to that point in the postseason had done nothing wrong. He got off to a good start by striking out Marcus Semien after walking Taveras.

Only then it arrives Corey Seager: very powerful shot that ends up in the second ring of Globe Life Field. Tie at 5-5. We go to extra innings.

In the tenth neither team scored, although Texas had the opportunity several times, leaving two men on base.

In the top of the eleventh the Dbacks don’t even reach first base.

We get to the bottom part and it goes to the plate Adolis Garciathis month’s hero October 2023. Needless to say, turn of the bat and ball that ends up in the stands. Arlington esplode.

The Texas Rangers win Game 1 in extra-innings, after a crazy comeback. The final score was 6-5.

The protagonist is always him. The Bombi. Home run for the fifth game in a row and 22 runs batted in this postseason. No one ever in history like him.

Tonight there will be game 2 immediately. But game 1 is already in baseball history.

Matteo, Bear for friends, therefore for everyone. I love America’s favorite pastime: baseball. Lifelong Boston Red Sox fan, but first and foremost a Diamond fan. In love with Pedro Martinez’s fastball, Ken Griffey Jr.’s swing and David Ortiz’s home runs. Secret dream: watching a game from the Green Monster at Fenway Park. On Instagram I talk about baseball with the page @mediabattuta
