The referees “categorically” deny that there is a hidden VAR room

He Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), which has not left the news almost every day since the outbreak of the Negreira case, has once again been the protagonist this Friday due to the statements of former referee Estrada Fernández. The body that directs the arbitration work in Spain made an official statement to regret that they want to “raise interested suspicions” and that their “professional and independent behavior” is doubted, while stressing that both the clubs and LaLiga know all the rooms. destined for the VAR that it has in the Las Rozas Football City and “they know perfectly well the use that is made of them.”

«We regret that, without any basis and with the sole objective of raising interested suspicions, the professional and independent behavior of the CTA and its members is called into question. The legal services of the RFEF are already studying any statement or accusation that threatens the integrity of the competition,” said the CTA in its note.

The organization wanted to come forward in this way after the publication this Thursday by the ‘Diari ARA’ of the existence of one more VAR room in the City of Football, from where a person would communicate with the VOR Room, something that would be prohibited by international regulations. Furthermore, as indicated by former referee Xavier Estrada Fernández in a statement to ‘ElDesmarque’, that cabin was not “in the protocol or regulations.”

A VOR space with technicians and substitutes

«In order to categorically deny and clarify any recent publication, we want to inform you that the VOR space of the Las Rozas Football City of the RFEF, which has been shown on many occasions to both professional clubs and the media, communication in an exercise of absolute transparency, consists of seven closed VAR rooms, a space with five VAR stations and two additional rooms«, detailed the CTA in a statement.

The organization pointed out that in this first additional room, “the technicians from the technological provider ‘Hawk-Eye’ are in charge of the technical management of the matches”, while in the second, “called the VAR Reserves Room”, it is used for “an extra VAR referee is placed for each of the matches, whose functions are to monitor the match and be prepared to replace the VAR or AVAR in the event that there is a medical problem.”

The CTA stressed that this extra referee “provides” its Technical Commission with “immediate information of any technical problem that occurred in the matches or extraordinary incidents (weather problems, crowd mishaps, etc.)”, but stated that “They never interact with the VAR or AVAR of the match except, as an exception, to inform you that the offside lines sent to the television production have not been shown in the program, since it is the latter that decides whether or not it wants to incorporate them into its broadcast.”

With the knowledge of LaLiga

«LaLiga has been aware of these spaces from the moment of their creation. What’s more, both the current member appointed by LaLiga in the Referee Committee for Professional Competition, Arturo Daudén Ibáñez, and his predecessor, Antonio Jesús López Nieto, have visited these rooms on repeated occasions and are perfectly aware of the use made of them. added the committee chaired by Luis Medina Cantalejo.

The CTA considered “it is also pertinent to remember that the existence and use of these additional rooms is common in international FIFA and UEFA competitions, as well as in the main European leagues” and recalled that “the images and audios generated in the VOR room during the match they are recorded.
