“Portu”, as his teammates at Sporting affectionately called him, is better than ever at 35 years old. André Castro, former Sporting de Gijón player, has become one of the great protagonists of the current Champions League matchday. His goal culminated Sporting Braga’s comeback against Unión de Berlin and gave three key points to the Portuguese team to fight to be among the top two in the group stage. Braga lost 2-0 with fifty minutes remaining with goals from Becker. Niakaté and Bruma leveled the score before André Castro scored the winning goal in the 94th minute with a tight shot off the post.

André Castro lived two stages in Gijón during Manolo Preciado’s years at the head of the bench in the First Division. Then, on loan from Porto, he left a great memory among the red and white fans, in love with his dedication and power in the center of the field. He was an ideal complement for footballers like Nacho Cases or Rivera. Later, after also making a career in Turkish football, he returned to Portugal to become one of the important footballers of Sporting de Braga, an alternative to giants such as Sporting Lisbon, Benfica or the aforementioned Porto.
