The Port of Bilbao awards its project to supply electricity to ships |

The Port Authority of Bilbao (Spain) has commissioned the planning of its infrastructure for supplying electricity to ships in the port. The objective is to provide four electrical connection points on pier A-5 of the Central Pier. This will allow ships docking at this dock to receive electricity from the port’s distribution network.

Furthermore, in a later phase, it is planned to tender and contract other related projects, such as the installation of electricity generation through photovoltaic panels, to guarantee that part of the energy used by the ships is of renewable origin.

The contracting table of the port of Bilbao has proposed awarding the project drafting service and the execution of the works of the new electrical infrastructure at dock A5, as well as the comprehensive maintenance service, to the construction and maintenance company Tecuni, for an amount of 4,477,694.33 euros and an execution period of 56 months.

Among other actions, the work includes the preparation and drafting of the construction project, which will cover the entire installation, from the connection point with the distribution company to the connection boxes on the edge of the dock. All the technical documentation required according to current legislation will also be addressed, such as the Health and Safety Study, Waste Management Study and any other necessary technical documentation, visas and authorizations.

It is worth mentioning that the project will also include the supply and assembly of a measurement and distribution center, the installation of connection cables from this center to the OPS sets, the construction of the OPS sets, the installation of power cables from these to the connection boxes at the edge of the dock and finally the provision of a cable management system to facilitate the connection of vessels.

On the other hand, the Port of Bilbao has awarded the Cantabrian company specialized in maritime works Ciomar the contract to carry out dredging work aimed at expanding the draft in the access channel to Astilleros Murueta.
