The Pickleball World Cup: Showcasing Global Talent in an Exciting Team Format

Pickleball is a paddle sport (or racket sport) that combines elements of tennis1, paddle tennis, badminton and table tennis, in which two or four players hit a ball over a net, seeking to score points and win sets. . For this, solid wooden blades or light materials such as composite are used, and a solid, hollow plastic ball with holes. This sport shares many characteristics and rules with other racket sports: the dimensions and layout of a badminton court, a net, and playing and scoring rules very similar to those of tennis and badminton, with different modifications.

Pickleball was invented in the mid-1960s in the United States as a playground game for children.2 The spread of this sport is attributed to its popularity in community centers, physical education classes, public parks, private gyms, facilities YMCA and retirement communities. Thousands of pickleball tournaments are organized throughout the United States, notably the United States National Pickleball Championship, the United States Pickleball Open, the Major League Pickleball, as well as numerous international championships. THE EVENT:

The Pickleball World Cup is an innovative competition between countries in which delegations showcase their country’s best talent at the event, with a team consisting of a minimum of 2 men and 2 women. Teams will compete in a unique and fun team format that includes men’s doubles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles and Final Battle singles, if applicable.

Colombia will be represented in this event by Alexander Murillo (captain) of Chia Cundinamarca, Eduar Fabián Amaya (Cali), Juan Francisco Quintero (Cali), Juan Pablo Montes (Cali), Juan David Cubaque (Cali) and María Camila Escobar (Cali) .

DATE AND PLACE:

It will take place on November 12 starting at 8 am at the Velodrome facilities of the Villa Deportiva Nacional (VIDENA) headquarters, located in the district of San Luis, Lima, Peru.

PARTIES:

Teams will compete against each other in Round-Robin matches. A Round Robin match consists of three matches: Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. A qualification match consists of four matches: Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and 2 Mixed Doubles. The top two teams will qualify for the knockout stage in a single elimination format.
