The duel between the Mac Allister brothers, Alexis and Kevin, finally materialized at Anfield. The father, Javier, was touched to see his children.
This happened when Liverpool hosted Union Saint-Gilloise on the second matchday of Group E of the 2023/2024 Europa League, Friday (6/10/223) early morning WIB. Alexis did not play as a starter, while Kevin was deployed in the central defender position.
Before dueling on the field, the two players were caught on camera talking on the side of the field. Alexis seemed to be explaining Anfield and its contents to his brother.
Kevin also gave Mate, a herbal drink similar to Latin American tea, to his younger brother. The duel between the two finally materialized in the second half when Alexis replaced Wataru Endo in the 46th minute.
Throughout the 45 minutes, Alexis and Kevin were involved in duels several times. Liverpool finally won 2-0 through goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota.
After the match, Kevin and Alexis were asked to interview about the match. Because this was the first time the two of them met as opponents, which was also witnessed directly by the extended family, including Javier Mac Allister.
“This is really exciting for my family, very emotional. I’ve faced the oldest brother before, but never Kevin – this is special. My dad is also here, he knows how much this fight means, he was crying,” said Alexis. in an interview with TNT Sports.
“He is the reason why I am having difficulties today, but this is a special moment. Maybe when Liverpool come to Belgium in the last match, we can avenge this defeat,” said Kevin.
Will they swap jerseys like most players?
“I don’t know if he would want to swap with another player,” said Alexis with a laugh.
