The Hall of Fame will find a new place in the center of Prague. A hockey temple is to be built instead of the game room

“For us, it is essential that it reopens before the World Championships in Prague in May. However, we want to follow a slightly different philosophy than before and have the Hall of Fame primarily as a legacy of the fascinating history of our hockey. It will work not only in a classic stone form, but also in a modern virtual environment,” says the manager of the Hall of Fame, Bedřich Ščerban, adding that this is the use of the former premises of Čedok.

“Valuable artifacts will remain on display in the Hall of Fame, but we are adding an emphasis on connecting with modern technology. We no longer want it to be a game room, but rather a hockey temple. Modern, dignified, up-to-date, efficient and, due to its location in the city center and concept, closer to the fans,” says Jan Mišák from the company Xlab, which won the tender for the implementation of the new Hall of Fame.

Its mobile version is also being prepared, as well as interactive installations in stadiums. “We also want to ensure a dynamic transformation of the content, and I believe that despite the offered virtual form, it will continue to be an attractive place for fans to visit,” suggests Mišák. “I appreciate the downtown location, which I hope will lead to more foot traffic. And it will certainly help if a more modern trend catches on to such a place,” says Olympic champion from Nagano Dominik Hašek.

Until this June, the Czech Hockey Hall of Fame operated for almost nine years in close proximity to Prague’s O2 arena. “However, when setting up the contractual lease at Harf, it was not financeable for us in the future,” reminds the general secretary of the Czech Hockey League, Jan Černý, of the massive financial losses.

“Economically, it really didn’t make sense, we wanted the Hall of Fame’s continued activity to be sustainable, so there was a quick eviction. I apologize once again to the domestic hockey legends for the hasty process,” explains Černý, according to whom the costs for the new premises will amount to only seventeen percent of the previous amount for operation. “Annual costs are newly calculated at less than three million crowns,” adds Černý.

The new members will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on December 14 during the Czech Republic-Finland match at the Swiss Hockey Games.
