The craziest and most charitable record: jumps off a bridge 941 times in just one day

New Zealander Mike Heard broke a world record this Wednesday by bungee jumping 941 times in a single day from a bridge in the New Zealand city of Auckland, in order to raise funds for charitable purposes.

Heard’s feat, which was broadcast live by AJ Hackett’s company Bungy NZ, broke the record to date of 765 jumps that Frenchman François-Marie Dibon achieved in June 2022.

The New Zealander raised more than 8,600 New Zealand dollars (about 5,100 dollars or 4,800 euros) which he will donate to the New Zealand Mental Health Foundation.

Heard told state television TVNZ that she wanted to break the bungee jumping record, since – she said – New Zealand was the country where this sport was born.

“I’m very motivated and it’s comforting to have the New Zealand Mental Foundation behind us. We have a problem in this country and I want to help bring it to light and get New Zealanders talking about it,” he said, referring to mental illness.
