Teams Battle for Relegation and International Cup Qualification in the League Cup

Gimnasia, Vélez, Colón, Huracán, Unión and Central Córdoba are some of the teams most committed to relegation

The League Cup has a special flavor because its regular stage (before the Playoffs) will be the one that will define relegations and classification to international competitions. That is why attention is focused directly on the Annual Table, which adds up the points obtained throughout the year, that is, in the Professional League and in the initial stage of the contest that is currently being played.

Regarding the fight for permanence, this Sunday the 8th continued with four matches, among which the agonizing draw of Gimnasia against Instituto in Córdoba, the victory over Unión’s final against Sarmiento and that of Platense over Racing in the Avellaneda Cylinder. Furthermore, regarding the fight for the title and entry to the International Cups, River Plate won Talleres at the Monumental 1 to 0.

In the fight not to be relegated, it is worth remembering that one of the places seems to already be reserved for Arsenal, last in the averages, which could even be relegated this date if a series of results occur. The other will be defined by the Annual Table, where even Sarandí’s team is also the worst with 28 points, so it will be the second to last team that loses the category.

At the moment, Vélez is in the red zone with 37 points, which today would be declining. Just above them appear with 38 Gimnasia, Colón and Huracán. For their part, Banfield, Tigre and Sarmiento have 40, while Unión has 41. Somewhat more relieved are Barracas Central and Central Córdoba with, with 42; and one point above Instituto and Independiente, with 43.

In relation to the classification for the Cups, it is worth remembering that River Plate, being champion of the Professional League, is the only one with a sealed ticket to the Libertadores 2024 for the moment and along with it will be the winner of the Argentine Cup, the the League Cup and the three best in the Annual Table, which for now are Talleres (61), Defensa y Justicia (56) and San Lorenzo (55). While Boca Juniors can also get a ticket if they beat Fluminense in the final of the current edition at the Maracaná on November 4.

The next six will go to the Sudamericana and for now they are: Godoy Cruz (53), Rosario Central (53), Argentinos (52), Boca Juniors (51), Estudiantes (51) and Lanús (48). Racing, also with 48, would be left out due to goal difference (+1 against +5 for Granate). Just behind are Atlético Tucumán and Belgrano in that fight, both with 47.

*The first three teams (excluding River Plate) will qualify for the Copa Libertadores.

*The following six teams will qualify for the Copa Sudamericana.

*The worst in the table will go to relegation and in case of equality in points there will be a final.

*Arsenal is last in the averages table, so it does not count in the Annual.
