Tax benefits are granted to those affected by Hurricane Otis in Acapulco – El Sol de México

The Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) will grant various tax benefits of up to one hundred percent to taxpayers in the areas affected by the passage of Hurricane Otis.

In a decree published on Monday afternoon in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), the agency explained that the measure is taken to support taxpayers in the affected areas so that they have liquidity to meet their economic commitments. .

“In order to contribute to the reactivation of the productive plant and, in this way, preserve sources of employment, the federal government, under my responsibility, considers it essential to grant tax benefits to taxpayers who have their tax domicile, branch, agency or any other establishment in the affected areas,” says the document signed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

In accordance with the decree, a tax incentive will be granted to taxpayers who have their tax domicile, agency, branch or any other establishment, in the affected areas during the period between October and December 2023, in the year in which they acquire said assets, applying the rate of 100 percent on the original amount of the investment.

The Treasury stated that this support consists of immediately deducting the investments made in new or used fixed assets made in said affected areas, during said period.

Likewise, it was established that employers located in the affected area will be able to enter the income tax withholdings (ISR) of their workers, corresponding to the months of October, November and December of this year, in three equal installments.

The payment of value added taxes (VAT) and special taxes on production and services (IEPS) were also deferred to three months for those people who are active in the affected area.

The Treasury also deferred the obligation to present the returns corresponding to the fifth and sixth two-month periods of the fiscal year 2023 until February of next year.

In total, there are 13 incentives that apply starting this Tuesday for individuals and companies that have been affected by the hurricane on the night of October 24.

They declare a national emergency

This Tuesday afternoon, the Declaration of National Emergency due to the passage of Hurricane Otis in Guerrero was also published in the DOF.

The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection published the document to activate the Program for Emergency Response to Natural Threats to serve the affected population in the state of Guerrero.

“The determination of the support to be granted will be made in the terms of the guidelines and based on the priority and immediate needs of the population to safeguard their life and integrity in the face of the Emergency Situation,” says the Declaration.
