Stefanos Tsitsipas Continues Dominance over Dominic Thiem with Third Victory this Season

Three games this season, three victories for Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Greek has found the point in his rivalry with Dominic Thiem, a rivalry that he already dominates 6-5. After beating him this Tuesday in the first round of the ATP 500 in Vienna, the Athenian shared his impressions at the Tennis TV microphones.

– Comment after the victory

“It was a very difficult match, as always happens when you face Dominic. Every game we had this season was decided by small details and I knew this time it would be no different. I’m happy to have developed good shots until the end of the game, I think we had some spectacular exchanges, it was also a very physical battle, as usual. I had to stay very focused, especially in the second set, where he seemed to be starting to find his best game, but I didn’t allow it.”

– A very close match

“The second set was very competitive, it started with a very long game on my serve turn, from memory I would say that it lasted almost ten minutes, so I am very happy to have defended it that way and pulled it off. You never know how the match would have developed if that game had fallen on the other side, luckily I was able to maintain my balance in those moments and a few minutes later get the break that was going to give me that second set.”

– The first game of the second set, key

“That was one of the most difficult games of the game, he was brilliant with his shots, he defended well in each rally, but I was able to do things a little better. Even at 4-2 for me, he had opportunities to regain equality, it was a delicate moment, but he didn’t achieve his goal either. Every time I manage to have an advantage on the scoreboard, what I try is to maintain that dynamic, advance through that flow in my favor, this time I think I achieved it.”

– Win with the public against

“The truth is that I expected an atmosphere like the one we have had, it is not a situation that has surprised me today. I guess it’s something that would also happen to me if I played a tournament in my country, it’s totally understandable. It doesn’t have to be something negative, in fact, at the beginning of the match I felt that I was playing at a very high level, I felt super good on the court, I have had that feeling with me until the tiebreak of the first set, where you always need that extra confidence to be sure of what you do. Somehow I managed to stay in that very competitive tiebreaker, which ended up giving me the confidence I was looking for for the rest of the match.”
