Spremberg/Abensberg (dpa/bb) – KSC Asahi Spremberg finished the Judo Bundesliga in third place. The Lausitzers lost their semi-final against eventual champions TSV Esslingen at the Final Four in Abensberg on Saturday with 2:12 (17:117). Only Elija Märkt (up to 81 kg) and Mariusz Krueger (up to 100 kg) scored points for Spremberg. For the Lausitzers, who reached the Final Four for the first time as champions of the North Group, it is the first medal since promotion to the Bundesliga in 2017.

Coach and club boss Dirk Meyer had to do without many athletes – including European champion Bogdan Iadov from Ukraine. Numerous judoka are preparing for the European Championships in Montpellier in Samorin, Slovakia and have not received permission to start from their associations.
