Sporting will open a state-of-the-art cafeteria in Mareo by 2024

One of the big projects that the Orlegi Group has in mind in Mareo is how to improve fan service, a priority for the Sporting management team. One of them can come through the hospitality service offered in the current cafeteria of the red-and-white facilities. This hospitality space is open to the public, regardless of whether the training is held behind closed doors, as is increasingly common at Sporting, and in the rest of the professional clubs. Also throughout the afternoon, with the grassroots or Women’s football work sessions. And throughout the weekend, with the meetings that are held every Saturday and Sunday at the red and white facilities.

At the rojiblanco club they believe that Mareo is not only a training space for the first team and grassroots football: it can also have life outside the ball. And through the services offered at the rojiblancos facilities, generate value for the club and its followers. Today the days with the highest collection logically coincide with those with the highest capacity in Mareo. These usually occur with Sporting Atlético matches (two Sundays a month) or with open-door training, when they coincide with a holiday.

Promoting Mareo’s hospitality operation is a great priority for Sporting’s management. Because it meets the demand of its fans and partners. Also as a possible business avenue to generate more income. Within the rojiblanco club’s roadmap is to design a first-class cafeteria that offers more services, in addition to the current ones.

There are several sports cities of professional LaLiga clubs that already have a cafeteria that offers these services. The idea is that the new space is a meeting point for sporting fans. A center by and for the red and white fans. From there, you could even follow the red-and-white team’s games. The project is not yet fully defined. But the intention is for it to be developed in the same space occupied by the current cafeteria. The environment of this location, located in front of the Leli Rubiera press room, could also be enhanced. Today, the back area of the premises is used sporadically by the red and white club for meals, sometimes barbecues, or meetings between players, managers or employees.

The red and white club has been negotiating for some time with different companies so that they can take care of the management of the future Mareo cafeteria and relieve the current successful bidders. The club negotiates that the current concessionaire maintains the canteen and box services of El Molinón, and that a different company be the one that exclusively manages the one in charge of managing the Mareo cafeteria.

Several representatives of relevant hospitality companies in the Principality have been to the Mareo facilities in recent months to hold meetings with members of the red and white management. For now, Sporting continues to evaluate the candidates and keeps the selection process open, which is now in a final phase. The intention of the red and white club is to opt for one of the companies valued in recent months in a short period of time. It is a complex decision, which takes time and where the club wants to get it right. And, after closing this agreement, start working with the new project to have the new premises for the short term. The intention of the red-and-white bosses is to plan the new Mareo cafeteria for 2024.

The search for a comprehensive and personalized service

With the creation of a new cafeteria, Sporting will achieve one of the main objectives it had when renovating Mareo: to offer a comprehensive and personalized service to red-and-white fans, parents of players, and other users. The renovation of the current red and white facilities had this double objective for the club: to offer the footballers better possibilities to perform at the highest level and develop; but also satisfy the demands of Sporting fans and partners.

The red-and-white club’s intention is to offer a complete service to users: from breakfast in the morning, to lunch, to other activities that can ease the waiting time. It would be an almost complete service. Also to deliver to the sportiguismo of a specific meeting point. Since LaLiga reached an agreement with CVC, several professional clubs have used money from this fund to establish an avant-garde cafeteria, as Sporting now intends.

The Athletic Club of Bilbao has been one of the pioneer clubs in pushing for the creation of a new cafeteria in its sports city. The Basque club has designed a first-class cafeteria in Lezama (you can even follow training sessions through a glass window). This initiative, Athletic assures, is also generating new business possibilities.
