Speculation Arises as Boris Becker Trains with Rising Star Holger Rune

Will Boris Becker soon make his comeback as a coach? The Dane Holger Rune, currently number 6 in the world rankings, gives room for speculation with a social media post.

The fact is: Becker was part of Rune’s team during this training week in Monaco. Pictures show Becker standing on the pitch with his bat in his hand, watching Rune. The 20-year-old also posted a group photo with Becker on social media. “Great week of training,” he wrote.

Rune was trained by Lars Christensen for years, then by Patrick Mouratoglou from the end of 2022 until April this year. However, the youngster has shown poor performances recently.

At the US Open he failed in the first round against the Spaniard Roberto Carballés Baena. At the Masters in Shanghai, they lost 0:6, 2:6 against the American Brandon Nakashima in round two.

After the US Open, Christensen returned to Team Rune. But things are said to not have been right with him or with Mouratoglou. “It just didn’t work out. Now it’s important that Holger finds the right team. He has decided that Patrick won’t be there,” Rune’s mother Aneke is quoted as saying by the Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet.

Boris Becker most recently trained Novak Djokovic

So is Becker now intervening? It’s still just speculation. But the 55-year-old, who was most recently coach of superstar Novak Djokovic from 2013 to 2016, could undoubtedly help.

There is still a lot of room for improvement at Rune. After all, the man from Copenhagen has never reached the semi-finals of a Grand Slam tournament. He reached the quarterfinals of the French Open twice and the quarterfinals of Wimbledon once.
